Revised AFP Modernization Program Budget in 2026 – At A Glance
The Department of Budget and Management or DBM has released the 2026 National Expenditure Program or NEP, providing a glance of what will be the budget figures presented in 2026 shall it finalize as the General Appropriations Act for the said fiscal period.
For the Revised AFP Modernization Program, the increase comes significant compared to the previous years, including the 2025 General Appropriations Act.
AT A GLANCE
The budget for the implementation of the Revised AFP Modernization Program now has a total amount of Php 90 Billion, of which Php 40 Billion inserted under programmed appropriations, whereas the remaining Php 50 Billion inserted under unprogrammed appropriations.
This saw a significant increase to the 2025 General Appropriation Act’s Php 75 Billion modernization budget, of which Php 35 Billion allotted under the programmed appropriations, whereas the remaining Php 40 Billion allotted under unprogrammed appropriations.
The increase come timely as the increased tensions over the West Philippine Sea and the broader Indo-Pacific region took place, whereby the recent incident involves the collision of a Type 052D of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy and a Type 056 cutter of the China Coast Guard while chasing the BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406) during a fisherfolk support mission near Bajo de Masinloc within the Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone.
This is also in line with an official publishing of the 2026 National Expenditure Program by the Department of Budget and Management, of which the budget secretary Amenah Pangandaman turned-over its copy to the office of the president and currently published on their website as of date.
With the release of the 2026 National Expenditure Program, it is with great hope that most of the allotments will remain intact, or some of the figures from the unprogrammed appropriations be re-aligned to the programmed appropriations to ensure the continuous push in improving the capabilities of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
